STEP 1: PREP
Cut the top 15" off
the door (or have it
cut at the home
improvement store
for a nominal
charge). Skip primer
for an aged look;
paint and let dry.
STEP 2: MOUNTING
Use a stud finder to
locate two wall
studs. Screw two bar
holder brackets into
the studs flush with
the top of the
baseboard, about
4" from floor. (Studs
may not be equally
spaced from the
edges of the door.)
Place the door, cut
side down, into the
brackets (
i
).
STEP 3: REINFORCE
Screw the corner
brace to the top
center of the door,
then to the wall to
hold the headboard
flush to the wall (2).
STEP 4: CONCEAL
To hide the top
bracket, use finishing
nails to attach a
piece of unfinished
molding so its top
edge is 1 inch above
the door (3). Fill
holes with wood
filler, sand, and paint.
